How To: Cozy Bedroom

My goal when decorating the bedroom is to make it more than just the place I sleep in. I want it to feel safe, calm, and cozy! This is my retreat place. The place I go when I need rest, relaxation, warmth, and coziness. In order to get that feeling I need to create that mood in the space. How can I do that? Through decor!

Using warm touches like blankets, scented candles, puffy bedding, and mood lighting, you can make the space more friendly, private, and peaceful. Another aspect to think about is color.

Personally I love to either keep it fairly neutral so that my senses aren’t overwhelmed or I keep it in warm tones. Pick colors that are soft, warm, attract you but don’t distract you. Nothing too bright, flashy or shiny. The last thing you need after a long day is a room full of color overload. Some people have specific style types, and you can choose any style that feels coziest to you! Just adjust by changing colors to soft, hushed tones, and keeping the decor minimalistic.

Something that can completely throw a space is clutter. Declutter your space. Make sure that everything has a home and that it stays in that place. If it still looks and feels too cluttered then try removing small decor items, moving your “home” for items that make it look too crowded, or try to add another surface so you can spread things out more.

Here are some fun bedroom surfaces to add to your bedroom:

  • Long dresser

  • Small coffee table

  • Basket

  • Side/Night tables (with cabinets is preferable)

  • Under-bed storage

  • Bench in front of the bed

  • Desk

No matter what you do remember to keep it clean, soft, mellow and spread out! That will give you the cozy space you’ve always dreamed of. Your bedroom has just been upgraded!
