Tips For Finding Positivity

It can be so hard to stay positive, especially when you are at home. Sometimes we fall into patterns of sitting and watching tv, taking naps and just getting into a low mood. So how do you stay positive? A few great ways to stay positive are through meditation practice, journaling, and spending time with family.

Meditation is an amazing thing to practice and really helps balance the mind when it’s wandering or misplaced. When you feel down, anxious, hopeless or depressed, meditation can help you get control of your mind and body, and help you find a neutral space. In a neutral space you can find breath, peace, calmness, control, self acceptance and more. It’s truly an amazing skill, but does take lots of practice. There is a great app called “Stop Breathe Think”. I have been using this (honestly on and off) for about 2 years now and I do love it. The trick is to stick with it and do even just small 5 min exercises each day. Taking that time really does pay off.

Another great way to find some positivity in your day is to journal. I find that this goes really well hand in hand with meditation. Before my meditations, I like to journal how I am feeling, what I have been doing, my thoughts, and anything else my heart desires to write. At the end of my writing I always choose one thing that brings me happiness. My journal has these sun illustrations all over it, so I decided to write at the end of every entry “my sunshine is…”. Sometimes it’s my dog, my husband, a low pain day, a certain food, person, place, event or situation. I then date the new entry and start my meditation. Journaling helps because I can always look back and see how I’ve grown or what I’ve overcome. By adding some gratitude at the end of each entry, then on a hard day, I can look at those pieces and be reminded of what I am grateful for. It’s also very therapeutic to be able to write down openly and honestly what I am going through. Journaling gives me a certain release that I find vital to a positive day, or to turn a negative day around.

I also love to spend time with my family. If I’m home alone, then of course I can’t do this. As soon as someone is around and not busy, I love to take advantage of that time and spend it wisely. We enjoy playing games, watching movies, cooking together, doing quizzes online or just sitting and talking. The person I spend most of my quality time with is of course my husband Paetur. We also love to go together and play games with his mom and dad. Family connection is so important, and who knows how to make you laugh more than those closest to you? So get some smiles in, some love in and enjoy the positivity that flows in the room.

There are so many ways to bring more positivity into your day like going to get some fresh air outside, doing something creative or craft, doing some self care and much more. You’ve just upgraded your self-care, your mind and your relationships, plus added more positivity into your day!
